What to expect
What does restorative dentistry cover?
Restorative dentistry is a broad term covering any treatment that repairs or replaces damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. At Hi Dental Suite this includes tooth-coloured composite and ceramic fillings, inlays and onlays, dental crowns, bridges, dental implants, and dentures. It also covers replacing failing old metalwork, such as cracked amalgam fillings or poorly fitting crowns, with more modern, better-fitting alternatives.
Starting with a full assessment
Good restorative work starts with understanding the full picture. Before recommending any treatment, we carry out a thorough examination that includes clinical assessment, photographs, and X-rays. This tells us not just which teeth need attention, but why they have deteriorated: whether that is diet, grinding, acid wear, or previous dental work that has broken down over time. Treating the cause, not just the symptoms, is what stops problems coming back.
Treatment planning for complex cases
If you need significant work across multiple teeth, we put together a phased treatment plan. This prioritises urgent issues first, anything causing pain or active decay, and then works through the remaining treatment in a logical sequence. We provide a written plan and costs upfront so you can make informed decisions about the order and timing of treatment.
Materials we use
- Composite resin — tooth-coloured, used for fillings and direct bonding
- Ceramic inlays and onlays — laboratory-made, for larger restorations
- Zirconia and porcelain crowns — highly aesthetic and durable
- Titanium implants — the gold standard for replacing missing teeth
We no longer routinely place new amalgam (silver) fillings. All new restorations are tooth-coloured where clinically appropriate.
